Roofing estimates are measured in squares (1 square = 100 sq ft). A typical asphalt shingle replacement on a 2,000 sq ft footprint runs $8,000–$18,000 installed, depending on pitch, layers, and market. Labor is usually priced per square; materials are a major cost driver and a significant markup opportunity. This invoice template comes pre-filled with 8 common roofer line items — add your business and client info, adjust any value, and print or download as PDF.

Roofer Invoicing Tips

Document the shingle brand and warranty on the invoice

Note the manufacturer, shingle series, and warranty registration number on your final invoice. The client needs this for the warranty registration, and it proves you installed the product you quoted.

Require final payment before leaving the site

On residential roofing, collect the final check (or digital payment confirmation) before your crew leaves. A handshake and 'I'll send it later' becomes a 60-day collections problem.

Invoice dumpster separately if using a third party

If a third-party roll-off company is on the invoice, list it as a pass-through at cost. Hiding a $200 markup on a dumpster line clients can Google creates distrust; transparent pass-through builds it.

Roofer Invoicing — Common Questions

What deposit should roofers require?

30–50% deposit is standard before scheduling, covering your material order. Never order $8,000 in shingles without a deposit. For insurance jobs, the deposit timing is driven by the adjuster's payment schedule — coordinate with the adjuster before collecting.

How should roofers handle insurance claim invoicing?

Invoice for the full replacement cost value (RCV), not just the actual cash value (ACV) the insurer initially releases. Include your overhead and profit (O&P) — typically 10% overhead + 10% profit — which insurers are required to pay. Use Xactimate or equivalent line items to match what the adjuster used.

When should I send the final roofing invoice?

Send the final invoice immediately on job completion — ideally before leaving the property. Walk the job with the client, confirm satisfaction, then request final payment on-site. Leaving without collecting on a $12,000 roofing job is unnecessary risk.

Can roofers file a lien for non-payment?

Yes. Roofing contractors have mechanics lien rights in all 50 states. Filing deadlines vary (60–120 days from completion). For any job over $5,000, include a preliminary lien notice in your contract and know your state's deadline. A lien notice letter alone often produces payment within days.
