Free Window Installer Estimate Template

Window installation estimates are priced per unit for standard replacement windows. Labor runs $150–$350/window depending on window type, frame condition, and interior/exterior finish work. The window unit itself is the major cost driver — materials typically represent 60–70% of the total project cost. This template comes pre-filled with 7 common window installer line items — edit any value, add your client info, and print or download as PDF.

Window Installer Estimating Tips

Specify the window brand, series, and U-factor in the estimate

Listing the exact window specification prevents the client from approving your estimate and then requesting a cheaper window. If they want to switch to a different model, it's a change order.

Check egress requirements before ordering

Bedroom windows must meet egress requirements (minimum 5.7 sq ft opening, 24-inch height, 20-inch width). Replacing a code-compliant window with a smaller unit is a liability issue. Verify egress compliance for every bedroom window.

Include window disposal in the estimate

Old windows are large and awkward to dispose of. Add a 'removal and disposal' line at $25–$50/window. Clients often assume this is included — surface it so you're not absorbing a haul-away cost.

Window Installer Estimating — Common Questions

How should a window installer charge per window?

Standard replacement window installation (remove existing, install new unit in existing opening): $150–$350/window for labor. Full-frame replacement (removing trim, framing, exterior siding, and re-trimming): $350–$700/window for labor. Always inspect the existing frame condition before pricing — rotted sill or framing can double the labor on a single window.

What is typically included in a window replacement estimate?

Included: window removal and disposal, new window installation, sill pan flashing, low-expansion foam insulation, exterior caulk and touch-up, and interior trim reinstallation (if removed). Excluded: interior and exterior paint, drywall repair, siding replacement, and structural work. Specify these exclusions explicitly — a client who expects fresh paint after window install will be disappointed.

Should I pull a permit for window replacement?

Building permits for window replacement are required in many jurisdictions when window type changes (e.g., non-egress to egress in a bedroom) or when a full-frame replacement involves structural elements. Always check local requirements. Include the permit fee as a separate line item — permit fees typically run $150–$500 depending on the municipality.

How do I estimate a window project where the frames are rotted?

Rotted frames require full-frame replacement and potentially sill/jack stud repair. Add a conditional line: 'Frame/sill repair if rot found — $200–$400 per opening.' Photograph the existing frame condition during your estimate visit. When rot is found during installation, document it immediately and issue a change order before proceeding.
